Do You Need GST to Sell on Meesho? Registration & Filing Guide

When GST is actually required to sell on Meesho, how registration-without-GST works, and how to file GSTR-1 from your Meesho reports without doing it by hand.

One of the most common questions from new Meesho sellers is whether GST registration is required before they can start. The short answer: it depends on what you sell and how much — Meesho does support onboarding without a GSTIN for certain categories and seller types, but it's not a blanket exemption, and it's worth understanding before you build a catalog around it.

When you can sell without GST

India's GST rules include a provision allowing certain suppliers of goods to sell through an e-commerce operator like Meesho without GST registration, subject to turnover limits and category conditions that can change and vary by state. Meesho's own seller registration flow will tell you at signup whether your category and details qualify for a without-GST account — that's the most reliable source for your specific case, since the rules aren't the same for every seller.

When you'll need to register

Most sellers eventually cross into needing GST — either because their category requires it from the start, their turnover crosses the registration threshold, or they want to sell in categories that aren't covered by the without-GST provision. At that point, registration is straightforward but the ongoing part — filing — is where most of the real work is.

This is general guidance, not tax advice — GST rules for e-commerce sellers vary by state and category and do change. Confirm your specific requirement in the Meesho Supplier Panel's registration flow or with a tax advisor before deciding.

Filing GSTR-1 from Meesho reports

Once you're GST-registered, your GSTR-1 return needs B2CS (business-to-consumer, state-wise) entries, CDNUR credit/debit notes for returns and cancellations, and an HSN-wise summary — all of which have to be reconciled from Meesho's raw order, payment and GST reports. Doing this by hand every month from CSV exports is where most sellers lose the most time in their entire GST compliance process.

Profiko's Tax Center turns those same Meesho GST reports into a ready GSTR-1 (B2CS, CDNUR, HSN summary) and Tally-compatible XML export automatically — your GSTIN is verified on signup, and the filing data comes straight from your actual orders every period.

Filing correctly matters more once you're registered — but it doesn't need to compete for time with the other side of running the store, which is knowing whether those orders are actually profitable once commission and shipping are accounted for.
