How to Convert Meesho Sales to Tally XML for GST Filing

Why Meesho's raw sales reports don't import cleanly into Tally, what needs to map correctly, and how to get a working Tally XML export.

If your accountant works in Tally, handing over a raw Meesho Order Report usually means it comes back with questions — the columns don't map to Tally's voucher structure, and GST fields like HSN code, tax rate and place of supply need to be derived, not just copied over.

What has to map correctly

  • Invoice number and date — Tally needs these to create a proper sales voucher, not just an order ID.
  • Taxable value vs total value — GST is calculated on the taxable value, which isn't the same as the order amount if a discount or commission-inclusive price is involved.
  • HSN code and tax rate per line item — required for the GST portion of the voucher to be correct.
  • Place of supply (buyer's state) — determines whether the transaction is IGST or CGST+SGST in the voucher.
  • Credit notes for returns — a returned order needs a corresponding credit voucher, not just a deleted sales entry.

Where manual conversion usually goes wrong

The most common error is treating every order as a simple sales entry and skipping credit notes for returns entirely — which leaves Tally's GST summary out of sync with what actually gets filed in GSTR-1. The two need to match, since GSTR-1 and your books are ultimately reconciled against each other.

Getting a working XML export

A Tally XML import file needs to follow Tally's specific voucher XML schema — hand-building this from a CSV is possible but tedious and easy to get subtly wrong in a way that only shows up when Tally rejects the import or the GST totals don't tie out.

Profiko's Tax Center generates a Tally-ready XML export directly from your Meesho GST reports — sales vouchers and return credit notes included — so it imports cleanly instead of needing manual cleanup before your accountant can use it.

This pairs with GSTR-1 filing rather than replacing it — see our step-by-step GSTR-1 filing guide for the return side of the same reports.
